Curriculum

The toddler room is where we house our blossoming 2 – 3 year olds, who are constantly intrigued by new things in the world around them. The children in the toddler room learn through the 7 areas of the EYFS (Early Years Foundation Stage) which are PSED (Personal, social and emotional development) CL (Communication & Language) and PD (Physical Development) and the 4 Specific areas are also implemented through activities such as UW (Understanding of the world) LIT (Literacy) MD (Mathematics) EAD (Expressive arts and design) Staff deliver and produce holistic observation which covers most areas of the EYFS. Toddlers learn through self-independence. At Bloomers Day Nursery we use Famly an online journal in which your child’s observations, assessments and pictures throughout their time at Bloomers will be uploaded and parents/carers can access and view from their own comfort. Parents/Carers receive an email once they sign up at Bloomers which allows them to create their Famly account, once your child leaves for school or moves on your child learning journal can be downloaded. Famly allows you to view your child’s daily care plan, for example, toileting, daily meals and daily nursery activities.

Activities

Toddlers take part in daily circle time sessions which include storytelling, learning about animals and also nursery rhymes and actions, this helps contribute to their communication and language development. Speech and language groups are implemented as an additional support to these children with speech delays and EAL. Toddler children take part in activities that widen their knowledge on independence and self-care, they learn to manage their own feelings and behaviour through the box of feelings and high scope conflict resolutions. Toddlers take part in outside physical literacy activities, they take part in messy and creative activities where they can learn and explore kinaesthetically, feeling textures in their hands from experiments of mixing colours and exploring messy play textures such as dough which children help and learn to make. Toddlers take part in role play and small world activities learning about the world around them and their environment. Toddler children are also able to explore their environment and take part in free play activities of choice such as mark making, painting, sand and water play and also fine motor play activities such as construction. It is in the toddler room that we at Bloomers Day Nursery encourage the children to discover their own independence through their learning. They help to set up the dinner tables daily for lunch and understand the routines pertaining to this. The children are encouraged to self-serve their food and feed themselves, as well as pouring their own water.

In the toddler room, we toilet train the children in partnership with parents/carers. The toddlers have access to the outdoor play area where they can explore and play with the bikes, trampolines and other physical equipment that are at their disposal. If they wish to participate in calmer activities, there is a selection of books, sand and water play, as well as the space to play games without equipment.

Why choose us?

Staff in the Toddler room are friendly and welcoming, they meet the needs of all the children and their parents/carers. Staff ensure that they develop a key person and parent/carer relationship. Staff observe their key children and write personal observations for them which the parents can access on Famly (online journal). Staff also complete 6 weeks of on-entry reports for the children once they start, and then further reports every 6 months (January and July) of which parents/carers can also access on Famly, an online journal. This allows us to have clear indicators of how the children are developing at the Nursery and be able to plan those next steps to move them on in their development. Toddler room is where staff support parents/Carers with potty training, parents and key people work in partnership with each other for a smooth transition in their children’s development. At Bloomers the toddlers, receive their 27 month review reports in which we offer integrated reviews at the setting where the parents/carers, health visitor and key person meet to discuss the child’ s development. It gives you the opportunity to ask anything you want know about your child’s health and development including their learning and behaviour. If your child needs help with some skills or development areas the health professional and early years setting professional will work with you to agree on the best way to support you and your child. Addressing any issues as early as possible supports young children’s healthy development and helps to prepare them for life at school.
