The Baby Room

4 Months – 2 Years

The baby room is the youngest room in the nursery. Babies explore through their senses within the environment with activities that are planned to support their development in all 7 areas of the EYFS. We focus and work on relationships with the babies and their parents/carers looking and working closely with the key person approach ensuring that the babies and their families are comfortable and feel welcome.

Baby room delivers robust and holistic activities such as:

  • Baking/malleable play (Playdough/experiments)
  • Exercise (Body and movement)
  • Circle time sessions, using key words and repetition to fully meet and develop language skills and closing the gaps of social interaction and play
  • Arts & Crafts with stimulation to exploring
  • Outside garden play, developing physical development and independence

The Toddler Room

2 – 3 Years

Toddler room is our middle age group, we focus on independence through their learning and development while also being mindful and open to their self-belief and learning their likes and dislikes. Toddlers learn how to play collaboratively with one another through sharing and curiosity, we embed routine and boundaries into the toddler room in which they learn the structure of the day through the repetitive routine. We support both children and their parents/carers with the transition of potty training in the toddler room with effective communication on how their child is doing.

Toddler children have a variety of activities that are broadened from the 7 areas of the EYFS such as:

  • Circle time and peer group play, learning to take turns, use of language and social skills
  • Imaginative play which extends their knowledge and understanding of the world, their curiosity and develop a sense of belonging and speech and language
  • Speech and language groups for those children who might need extra support in their learning
  • Messy play/Creative play
  • Story time, listening and understanding the stories
  • Physical development such as daily exercise sessions inside and outside, sports day annually.

The Pre-School Room

3 – 5 Years

Pre-school is the oldest room in the nursery, we focus on school readiness within the pre-school room, focusing on making those relationships with new people. We aim to make the transition of moving on to school as smooth and comforting for both children and parents as much as possible. Children are learning to hold mark making tools correctly, such as pencils to write their names and scissors to cut. We focus on confidence and independence through learning being able to identify and understand their strengths and weaknesses and likes and dislikes, while allowing them to explore and get ready for school we also implement a fun and free approach where they can learn through fun based ideas and not just tied down with work. Positive relationships and praise are emphasised in the pre-school room as they are at the age to understand right from wrong within some areas, so recognising these is a positive attribute we have within the pre-school class. The end of term sees the heartwarming graduation and celebration of the pre-school children who have grown their wings and ready to move onto school for further education.

The activities are planned through the EYFS and include things such as:

  • Teaching the children independence through dressing themselves, setting and clearing the tables, etc
  • Circle time and group activities
  • Outside physical play focusing on body movement and exercise
  • Maths learning how to do simple addition and subtraction through focus activities and throughout the day such as setting the table and knowing how many cups are needed per table.
  • Literacy, learning how to correctly hold a pencil, write letters of their name and this is through floor-based mark making activities and focused activities.
  • ICT skills, learning the basics of how to use a computer and move the mouse
  • Group game and puzzle time to learn how to solve conflicts and each other’s opinions which develops a sense of mutual respect within their peer group.
